Cub Scout Pack 1

When you're a kid, fun comes first. Cub Scouts lets kids have fun while teaching them skills that will help them later on. From the thrill of shooting an arrow to learning how to transform a block of wood into a race car, Cub Scouts is one thrill after another. With a program expertly tailored to match each age in a young boy's and girl’s life, Cub Scouts learn that even when fun isn't easy, it's always an adventure. In Scouting, everything has a purpose. And it shows kids that doing their best is the most fun of all.

Registration

We want to extend a special invitation to join Cub Scout Pack 1!  You can join by clicking HERE.

Our new scout registration event, will be held on Thursday, August 22nd. Drop in between 6PM and 8PM to Vestavia Hills Elementary West's carpool portico. 

If you are unable to attend the registration event, you can also register at our first Pack meeting on Thursday, September 5th at 6PM in Vestavia Hills Methodist Church's Dick Kelly Park (2061 Kentucky Ave, near the entrance to Tyson Hall).

*We'll be collecting travel toiletries and laundry items (detergent pods and/or dryer sheets) at the September 5th meeting. These items will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities as well as Stepping Stones Emergency Overnight  Shelter for Women and Children.

To help you get off to a smooth start, here is a breakdown on what to expect at the first Pack Meeting and for the next couple of months.

We officially kick things off with our first Pack Meeting on September 5th. Our Pack meetings open with a short flag ceremony. At the meeting, we will provide some information on the Pack, Dens and their leaders will be chosen for the new Lion Cubs (K), and you'll be able to ask all of the questions that you want.  Boys and girls will all be introduced to some of the principles of Scouting and will play a few games. 

Our Pack meetings will generally be on the first Thursday of every month (unless otherwise noted on the calendar). They start at 6PM and run around an hour. Often times we will have guest speakers, but we may also go to the places to have Pack meetings. In addition to the Pack meetings, you will have monthly Den meetings. The Den meetings are where the boys and girls of each age work on rank advancement and do activities within their smaller group. The dates and times of those meeting will be facilitated by your Den leader.

We will need Den leaders and assistant Den leaders for the new Lion Cub Den (K), so if you are interested in leading please let us know during the first pack meeting or later. Its not difficult and it is very rewarding. We can provide you with all of the information you'll need to get started.

If you look at the Pack 1 calendar, you will see several events over the next couple of months. In Cub Scouting, there are basically four different kinds or levels of events. First are Den events. Den events will only be for the small group of boys and girls of each age. These will be scheduled and coordinated by your Den leader. Pack events are planned and coordinated by the volunteer leaders of our Pack. District level events are for all scouts in the Vulcan district (Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook, Birmingham and Vestavia Hills) and are planned and run by the Vulcan District Scout professionals and volunteers. Council level events are for all Scouts in the Greater Alabama Council. These larger events typically have multiple dates and locations. On the calendar we will typically denote events hosted by the District or. Cub Scouting is very family oriented, so all family members are invited to attend the day trips, campouts and other events.
